Dear Parents,

Welcome back to all our families both new and old. How wonderful it is to see the smiles and hear the laughter of all our children. Our children and our teachers are all settling down to a routine and the bonds of friendship are quickly growing.
This month our children will begin learning Spanish. Simple words, phrases and fundamental greetings will be taught to the children during circle time activities. The children will also be exposed to songs and videos on the Smart Board to help them navigate and learn this language. I am equally excited to introduce American Sign Language in January. Miss Laura, our music teacher, has already started teaching your children this skill using Nursery School Songs. Ask them to sign Row, Row, Row your Boat and Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. As you can see our foundation is built on education, arts, play and laughter. This month in our “SEE” program we will learn about the famous children’s author Maurice Sendak. Mr. Sendak is world renowned for his award winning book Where the Wild Things Are.

Park Shore grounds have the most colorful lessons as we switch from summer to fall. Nature Walks and treasured colorful leaves enhance our educational experiences. We will have a special hay ride to our pumpkin patch where we will pick our own special pumpkins. Lessons in the classroom will continue as we open up a pumpkin and use our five senses. As an annual event, Park Shore manages to get magical pumpkin seeds. They will all go to the pumpkin patch, scatter their seeds and wait for the magic to begin. I love watching their faces when they return the next day to see that the pumpkins have appeared. Ending the month we will have our traditional Spooktackular. Mark your calendar for October 22nd, rain date is the 23rd. Please join us for a day of family fun.
On October 12th and 13th  the Dix Hills Fire Department will visit us at Park Shore. They will teach our children about Fire Safety, calling 911, stop, drop, and roll and the importance of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.  Also on October 11th and 12th Bilinguals Inc will be providing speech evaluations and educational screenings for the three and four year olds only. A form will be sent home if you would like to have your child evaluated. For more information please call the office.
Looking ahead we have Parent/Teacher conferences on November 8th. Notification of your scheduled time will be sent home in the mail. For our next enrichment program, we will explore the animals that roam the night. I can’t wait to teach them fun and amazing facts about nocturnal animals. I continue to enjoy my time with your children and look forward to teaching and working with them all year.
One last reminder, please remember to visit our website to see your child’s classroom photo album. This is a unique and fun way to get a glimpse of your child’s day. Our specialty teachers have their own album which you will also be able to view. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me.

Sincerely,
