I am so excited to be part of the launch of the Park Shore Parenting Corner. I would like to introduce myself and share my background and experiences with you. In 1990, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Binghamton University. In 1992, I received a Masters Degree in Social Work (MSW) from the Wurzweiler School of Social Work at Yeshiva University in Upper Manhattan. At that time, I received my certification to become a licensed clinical social worker. Upon graduation, I worked at Elmhurst City Hospital as a staff social worker. In this capacity, I had the distinct privilege of participating in a Family Therapy Training Seminar under Salvador Minuchin, the founder of Structural Family Therapy, author of "Families and Family Therapy" and renowned family therapist. For 7 years, I counseled children, adolescents and families in the New York City agency system. During this time, I trained under the chief psychologist and founder of the Vincent J Fontana Center for Child Protection at the New York Foundling Hospital. I led several training workshops on issues pertaining to children and families at the New York Foundling Hospital, New York University School of Social Work and Fordham University School of Social Services. In 1999, I completed a One Year Certificate Program at the National Institute of Psychotherapies in Manhattan. At the present time, I am an assistant teacher at the Park Shore Country Day School and Camp and I run training workshops for the teachers on pre-school related topics. The workshops I have presented included, "Early Childhood Development", "Child Abuse Overview and Reporting", "Developing Self Esteem in Young Children" ,"The Importance of Communication in the Pre-School Classroom" and "Understanding the Mystery of Play". During the summer of 2010, I had the pleasure of being the Puppetry Specialist at Park Shore. I performed puppet shows to the young campers and introduced them to the thrill of performing with the puppets in front of their peers. For several years, I have been an individual psychotherapist focusing my practice on eating disorders, body image, anxiety and family issues. I am the mother of 3 children, ages 11, 8 and 5. I love running, reading, watching movies and spending time with my family.
